Practical Test
When you have passed your Theory Test and your instructor thinks you are ready, you can apply for the Practical Driving Test. This is a test of your ability to drive safely and complete two manoeuvres to a reasonable standard. The test lasts about 40 minutes begining with an eyesight test. You must be able to read the number plate of a car from a distance of 20.5 metres. If you are unable to read the plate you will not be able to take the driving test. Next, you will be asked two 'Show Me Tell Me' questions from the following site: http://www.driving-test-success.com/showme_tellme/show_me_tell_me.html
Getting one or both of these wrong will result in one minor mark being added to your Driving Test results. The examiner will then direct you on one of several test routes, checking your ability in various traffic situations. He will ask you to complete two reversing manoeuvres from reversing around a corner, turn in the road, and reverse parking into a bay or around a parked car. One in three candidates will be asked to do an emergency stop. At the end of the test you will immediately find out if you have been successful. You can make up to 15 minor driving faults and still pass. But one serious or dangerous fault and you will fail the test.
